The messages are scams. You MAY not have a virus, trojan or spyware on
your system, but have allowed a configuration of your ISP connection
that allows an unnessesary form of communication to occur.

Messenger Service is a completely different application from either
Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger. Messenger Service is intended as a
Local Area Network administrator's tool to notify users when network
resources are about to be shut down for maintenence. Most users have no
need for it AND if they do it should be configured to only work locally.

Are you using a firewall? Go to http://www.grc.com and look for links to
the "Shoot the Messenger" and "Shields Up" links. The text accompanying
the "Shoot the Messenger" link indicates that you need to use your
router or software firewall to block remote access to port 135.

Greetings,

I'd suggest you upgrade to SP2 to solve this issue, as it will turn off the Messenger
Service, turn on the Windows Firewall and other great stuff.
