messaging interface has returned an unknown error

R

Richard Rosell

I am using Outlook 2003. I am getting the following error message:

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problems
persists restart Outlook."

I have restarted Outlook numerous times, yet the problem persists.

Can anyone suggest a solution to this problem.

Thanks,

Richard

when do you get the message? find and rename outcmd.dat and *.srs and see if
it helps.

I have used the search feature and cannot find those files. Any suggestion
as to where or how I can locate them?

they should both be in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook.

Since it happens when you hit New message - if you use word as your editor,
try it with the Outlook editor. If it works ok with Outlook editor, rename
normal.dot and try word again.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Unfortunately none of these suggestions
has worked. I changed the name of outcmd.dat and outlook.srs as suggested
and have changed to outlook editor.

Any other suggestions?
