"messaging interface has returned an unknow error...."

I keep getting this message:
"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. if the problem
persists, restart Outlook."

From cursory research I suppose my .pst fil is too big (29+ MB). I've tried
archiving older messages but the error comes back. I've tried deleting
messages, some of the newer onse will delete, but the older ones give the
same error?

I've tried the mailbox repair tool "scanpst" but still no luck, I've tried
to repair my OfficeXP installation (which all I did was install the SP.)

Is there a way to increase size limitation on the .pst file?
Or is there another method I need to try to reduce this file?

Any help would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks In Advance,
Arden

Hi Arden
the size of your PST file is definitely not what is
causing the problem, you can have a PST of over a gig and
it should still work (not advisable I admit but you
understand my point)
What happened when you ran the "detect and repair" option
from the help menu ? any errors or did it complete
successfully with any errors?
From what you were saying abuot not being able to delete
some older messages then I would say that the PST file may
of got corrupted in some way and to create another one and
use that instead.

Hope this helps

Thanks David,

Actually you've probably hit it. My .pst file was on my laptop before and
the hardrive died. I was able to get most of the data, including my mailbox,
off of it and transferred it to my desktop. When Outlook on my desktop first
tried to access it there was an error pertaining to possible corruption, so
I ran the repair tool.

It seems that only mail after March 1, 2004 can be deleted or moved,
anything else gives me the above error when I tried to do anything but read
the messages.

Do you know of tool that I might use that can extract these older messages
so that I can either delete or file them?

I suppose I could always remail them to myself or cut-n-paste to text
files....<zzzzzzz>

Thanks Again....
