messages stuck in Outlook 2002 Outbox

I have a client who uses Outlook XP for his
POP mail. It was super slow on his system, so I had him
empty the
Deleted Items (that cut his pst file in half to about 100
MB) and
close the Archive PST so that wouldn't open everytime.
One problem
I couldn't fix is that message are set to send and receive
automatically every 2 minutes, but his message just pile
up in the
Outbox and get sent sometimes. Like the Outbox has a mind
of its
own. There are no error messages. I ran Office Update and
applied
SP3. Not sure what to do here.

I had a similar problem once. I got round it by opening the mail in the
sent folder and clicking "sent" again.
