Messages opening on receipt.

Can someone tell me how to stop my emails from opening in Window's Mail as
soon as I click on them, please. I can't highlight one to delete it without
it opening.

I remember this happening on Outlook Express when I bought my other laptop
and can't remember how I was told to correct it.

View menu>layout>disable Preview Pane.
