Messages in folders on server are not downloading

If I check my email through the web portal (Ie from a computer on the road or
at work) and organize messages into folders online they will not download
into Outlook on my home computer. Only the messages in the general Inbox on
the mail server download into Outlook. Is there any way I can change this?

Is this for a POP account? If so, POP protocols do not understand
"folders". The only thing they can use on the server is the Inbox there.
 
It is an IMAP account. I have folders set up on the server but my Outlook
will only download messages that are in the Inbox, not in any of the folders.

Have you subscribed to the folders?
 
No...didn't know that I had to.

I just found out how in the "Help" section of outlook.
