Messages dissappear from inbox

I am using Outlook 97 running on Vista Home Premium. Mail disspears from my
inbox automatically if I leave the inbox folder and see any other folder. I
can't seem to find where e-mail in the inbox ends up after that. I have no
rules, have reinstalled Outlook, and recently ran the automatic diagnostics
tests finding nothing wrong in Office. Can you please help me?

Check your View. View-Current View. It should be set to Messages not
"Unread Messages"
