Messages disappear from Inbox after replying to them

I have a user who is on Outlook 2000. Today his inbox messages started
disappearing whenever he replies to them. I checked and he has no rules in
play. I cannot find any checkbox in the options to turn this on or off.

Is there a way to stop this from continuing?

Did you check for Inbox filtering? He may be displaying only read messages.
Click View, Current View, and check Messages to display all.

I finally found the problem. He had somehow clicked his date column header
and changed the sort. His inbox has so many messages that he couldn't find
them until I sorted them back to descending date.

Thanks for the ideas. At least it got me to looking deeper.
