messages cannot be imported from the MAPI client

The MAPI client is also known as Outlook, so you'll probably need
to install Outlook 2003 or more recent.
 
You can't directly import a .pst file unless Outlook is installed on the
Vista computer.
You can copy Outlook Express .dbx files over and directly import them.
