Importing PST emails into Windows Mail

How do I import messages stored in PST folders (created with Outlook) using
Windows Mail?

When I try, I get an error saying "Messages cannot be imported from MAPI
client".

You should have MAPI system operational to work with PST folders. You should install MS Outlook from MS Office (any version will suffice I believe) or http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...31-079A-43A9-BFF2-0A110307611E&displaylang=en beforehand.

Is OL also installed and is it using the PST file in question?

No, not any version will suffice, since pre 2003 versions cannot read the
later version file format, and the pst has to be configured in OL in order
to import
