MessageBeep(0) does not sound anymore

Hello,

On a W2K system, MessageBeep(0) (as programmed in applications) does not
sound anymore. Other system sounds are ok. It happened without any
identifiable cause. I understand that there are several registry entries
that control the ''Default beep'' (HKCU/AppEvents/...) but I don't know what
they should be.

In the control panel (Sounds and multimedia) the page ''sounds'' does not
display a ''default beep'' entry. Is this correct? If not, what should I do
to correct this.

Any hint will be appreciated. Thank you.

Just in case, here is the solution:

1) The default beep has been removed by desinstalling Symantec (I hate them)
Norton Antivirus.

2) The following key must be added (just add the key, without giving a
content): HKCU/AppEvents/Schemes/Apps/.Default/.Default

3) In control panel/sounds & multimedia properties/Sounds assign a value to
the item marked '' Default beep'', which is now available.

That's it.
