MessageApp Error at Shutdown/reboot

When shutting doen or rebooting, I frequently get a dialog box saying that the OS is trying to end the application "MessageApp". When this happens, MessageApp always fails to end and then the shutdown/reboot process stops. Manually shutting down MessageApp is the only solution (you are given the option to do this when the dialog box opens up).

I have searched the newsgroups and two other people had the same problem within the last two months. Neither got a response. So evidently the problem is somewhat obscure, but not totally exotic. One of the other people indicated they got the problem often after failing at a printing task. I get the message often after exiting from a game application.

Anyone have an idea what causes this?
