I get message pop ups everysince we bot our new
computer. They pop up even if I am not on the internet.
I get at least thirty a nite. They are titled messenger
service. They all advertise websites you can go to get
rid of the pop ups. I was told this was built into the
Windows Operating system Is this true? How do I get rid
of these.

Control Panel, Adminsitrative Tools, Services. Find Messenger and
double-click on it. Change the startup to Disabled. Click the Stop button.

By the way, Messenger uses one of the same ports as the Blaster Worm, which
I bet you have. Install a good antivirus program, update and run a scan on
you system. You will be surprised.

Also, install and use a decent firewall. (Another thing that would stop
Messenger and Blaster problems.) There are several free ones (Black Ice,
Tiny Personal Firewall) that are free on the Internet.

Finally, update your operating system. Make sure you definintely install all
critical updates.

Good luck.
