message notification on logon screen

Hello,

On my logon screen of the computer, it leaves a notification message if
there are unread email messages. Now it stays on there forever, even after
they are read. If there are none, it is supposed to not show anything
there. It says you have 3 unread messages, and I do not. Restarting the
computer did not help. I have xp professional, and a dell 4700 computer.

Thanks for the reply, CMM. That answer seemed a bit too involved for me
though. It turned out that I got it fixed by looking at the article referred
to in the previous answer. I just got the whole counter thing turned off,
which is fine. Thanks again. Marian
