Message Handler Not Responding...Shutting Down Problems

Hi

I'm running Xp Home with latest service releases and all up to date
critical updates.

My machine has developed a problem which is stopping it shutting down.
An applet appears on screen showing Message Handler trying to shut
down, but once the bar has gone across I get a message that it is not
responding and I have to shut it down manually, after which the
shutting down proceeds normally.

Can anyone advise how I go about tracking down and resolving
whatever's causing this please.
