message content disappears when I move them from inbox to sub-fold

When I open (or preview) the re-located message, the message content is
either: 1) not found, or 2) mirrors a different message. In other words, as
I select the messages in the "From" column, the preview pane shows a
different or no message at all.

Moving the message back to the "Inbox" does not help.

Each sub-folder has a different problem. For example:

In my "Business Finance" folder, all messages are the same as the first
received.

In my "Tutorials" folder, only two are identical while the rest say "Message
cannot be found."

However, in my "Subscriptions" folder, all messages appear intact.

The rest of my folders are combinations of the above.

Sent and deleted items, junkmail and drafts are okay. My contacts are okay.

This is not good - I can't afford to lose emails.

Windows Live Mail has the same problem in the Storage Folders inbox
(imported from Windows Mail) but not its own

Windows Mail definitely has a problem with message store corruption,
often initiated by running a non-compatible antivirus program.
Have you tried the various repair utilities of WMUtil:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/Default.aspx

Also, in Windows Live Mail try a manual re-import from Windows Mail.

"Repair Database" button in the WMUtil does nothing. Neither Mail or Live
Mail was open when I tried it.

Antivirus is Norton.

Since I have the problem in both mail apps, which should I fix first? or
will one fix the other?

I posted this also in the Live Mail forum and was advised to remove a
"SearchFolder Version" in Regedit and to also to create a new WLMail message
store folder. I have not done so yet.

I have no expertise in that WMUtil program. The author of that program
often makes appearances here, so wait for him to advise you about it.

Which version of Norton Antivirus? Norton Antivirus 2008 (and earlier) is
among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail. If you haven't already
done so, be sure to disable its email scanning, for the reason explained here:
http://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Several users here have reported that Symantec will give you a free
upgrade to Norton Antivirus 2009, which cures many of its problems.

In a worst case scenario, you may have to uninstall Norton, followed by
using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail are independent apps. Fixes apply
to a specific program and not to both.

The "SearchFolder Version" fix for WLM is only relevant to a bug concerning
its Quick View folders.

Have you tried doing a manual import of your WM messages into WLM?

I have the Norton Internet Security that came with the computer, recently
activated with 2008 version. I just disabled email scanning as per your
article. I'll look for an upgrade to the Norton.

I ended up uninstalling Windows Live Mail. Seemed redundant to have both
running. I still have original problem, but only with certain folders. I
moved them, created new, etc. Nothing worked. I'll wait for more word on the
WMUtil or something else. It's not a show-stopper, but it will definitely
slow me down.

Thanks for the help.

Disabling email scanning in Norton 2008 is often not sufficient to
eliminate all its bad effects on Windows Mail. You should either upgrade
to Norton Antivirus 2009, or else uninstall Norton altogether.

I am also having this problem of losing the contents of messages when I move
them to a sub-folder in Windows Mail for Vista.
I use Windows Live OneCare for my antivirus, so I'm thinking that should be
compatible. My internet/email provider (Telus) is running a spam filter.
Would that be a problem? We've been using this email provider and their spam
filter for a few years and this message content problem has only shown up
this past fall.
In an attempt to fix this problem, I've allowed Windows Mail to compact the
message store. I've also downloaded WMUtil and run the repair database and
cleaned the blank files. But my messages are still changing into duplicates
of existing messages when I move them to a subfolder.
Can you help me?!??
