Mermory Loss

I have loaded XP onto and older PIII laptop with 64MB of ram. When I boot,
the system check confirms "64MB OK". The computer runs very slow and in
checking “My Computer Information – Status†it shows only 32MB memory
detected. How do you set the OS to recognize the entire installed RAM. I know
I need more memory and will purchase it but for now the OS will not recognize
what I have.

If I were to take a guess, I'd bet that your video card
is using "shared" memory. THis takes away from your main
memory to the tune of whatever the video card "boasts".
In other words, if your video card says it "has" 32Mb,
then it got it from the main memory -- which leaves you
32MB. WinXp needs LOTS MORE than that. I'd recommend
about 256Mb as a minimum and 512Mb or better for faster
running. of course, since you have an older computer, you
probably cannot deal with much more memory in the slots
available to you.

Good Luck.
