Merging2 Presentatoins together with diff backgrounds

Hello. Hoping some one can help me quickly ;-)

I want to merge a couple of different presentations and still keep the
backgrown AND presentation /layout color, etc. however once I insert the
slide the inserted slide background/layout is the same as the PP I am
"pasting"into.

Sugestions? Oh by the way I have PPT2000... yes a bit old ;-)
