I don't know of any out-of-the-box way of doing it in PowerPoint. Our Merge
addin was written to do just this (and a good bit more). There's more info and a

If you need printouts rather than a slide presentation, you could also probably
build your certificate in PowerPoint then copy/paste it to Word, then overlay it
with a Word merge field or two and use Word to do the merge printing.
