merging an Achronis created 'safe partition' with my D: partition

I tried a free version of an Achronis backup program and with it
created a small (25Gb) safe zone. I dumped the program (too many
issues), and now instead of just a C: and D: drive (100Gb primary and
343Gb logical), I have an add'l 25Gb logical L: drive. I can format
it use native xp disk management, but would like to just merge it back
into the D: drive (from where it was created). How can I do this w/o
buying anything, or going back to dos school? I've downloaded Ranish
partition mgm't, but don't know how to use it.

The partition manager downloadable free from
http://www.easeus.com
is easy to use and worked flawlessly for me.

I've never used Ranish either but I've heard it is not too user friendly.
BootIt Next Generation is available from:
http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html and it does partitioning,
makes a compressed image, does many other partitioning chores and is a boot
manager. It is not quite as easy to use as Partition Magic but it is half
the cost and has more features. Unlike the crippled PMagic demo, BING is a
*full function* demo you can try for FREE for 30 days. The web site has a
lot of support articles.

depends on which o.s. you are
using to manage partitions.

however, via computer mgmt
under admin tools you can
try right clicking on the
partitions and see what options
are provided to you for use.

if any, you may have to see
if you can delete the 3rd
partition,

then expand the second partition
onto that empty space.

another method is to format
that third partition and then
try expanding the second one
over that formatted space.

-------------

also, I think there is are free
partitions managers on the
net.

I don't use them so I can't
recommend any.

however, I recall programs
like paragon was provided
free.

I also recall a url that cited
something like

www.freepartitionmanager.com

or something to the affect.

Very true. But I'd say "not quite as easy" is an understatement,
especially for someone new to this kind of thing. :-)

I used computer mgmt/disk management (right click on My Computer and
choose 'manage'.) to delete the partition L:. Had to force it past the
warnings of imminent disaster....
Then, using the command prompt (see help file on how to extend a
volume) I was able to extend my D drive into this space.
The help file uses the (final) command 'extend [size= n]' where n is
the size of the unallocated space. In my case, that was 25080 Mb.
It fails if you put in the size. Just 'extend' works!!
Thanks to all for your help. Usenet still works wooohooo!!
