Formatting C, D data lost

Hi

1st Question

In my destkop have installed windowsXP in both C and D drives, D
drive also has few photos and songs.
when i formatted C drive, the photos and Songs of the D drive are
also lost, i am not sure why this happened ?.
could you please let me know ?

2nd Question :
----------------------

In my vista64 laptop i have 2 primary partitions 20gb D drive and 250
gb C drive, I wanted to crate a partition as i dont want C to have
250gb. I used shrink volume and created a 100gb E Drive,it created
as a logical drive
now my question is If i format C drive anytime will i loose data on E
drive ?? just like it happened in previous question. ?????

It may be that they were actually on the C partition, or that you deleted or
formatted the D partition. Hard to say at this point.

If you need them, the thing to do is to STOP using that system and use data
recovery software. If you used the system at all, chances of recovery
plummet.

Back up your data and verify the backups before doing anything like this.
Then, delete all the partitions and re-create them as required, and finally
restore from backup.

Why are you formatting the system partition? It's hard to tell what 3rd
party applications are going to do.

They are on D for sure and i formatted C for sure,
i wanted to format C because of some strange trojan, it overwritten
some of the system files.
i have windows on D also, could this be the cause to lose data while
formatting ??
i didn't use any third party programs just used windows diskmanagement
tool.


In this case, is the logical partition considered part of primary
drive ??
i have 250gb C drive if i shrink it to 150 and create a logical driveD
of 100gb
if i format C drive, will i loose D also ??
