merge two domains into one

Using the Windows 2003 Domain Rename tools is it possible to rename one
domain to the same as another domain in the event 1 company is acquiring
another company. ie. A.com & B.com i would like to rename B.com to be A.com
also. There is only 1 DC in B.com

there us no way you can merge domains or forest at this moment.

you have two options...:
* create a trust and be happy with that
* migrate the contents (users, groups, memberships, computers, data, etc) to
the other domain

But in windows 2003 there are tools called windows 2003 domain rename tools.
Is this not what they are intended to do?

they also say: the end result of number of domains must be the same as
before the rename. those tools RENAME or REPOSITION a domain (except for the
forest root domain) they do not merge

maybe i shouldnt have used the word "merge". What i am trying to achieve is
starting with two different named domains...i would like to rename one of
them to be the same as the other....since we are buying the other company and
we want to incorporate their DC and workstations into our domain and adopt
our domain name. Can that be done? thank you.

As Jorge said earlier no. Your best bet would be migrate one of the two
into the the other using Microsoft's Active Directory Migration Toolkit.
