Merge form document?

I have been asked to try and do a document in Word that will prompt users
where and when to fill in information.

In Wordperfect the document use to be saved in a directory and anyone could
open that file. Once opened you merged the file and this then allowed the
"keyboard prompt boxes" to appear. The boxes would prompt for things such as
the date and the seller. You click continue after completing each "field" and
then so on through the document. At the end you could save the file as a
normal wpd file and the original file was a frm file.

Any ideas on the best way to get to Word to do somehting similar? We did
try templates but we would need then to set a macro up on each machine to run
this particular file and that is not really an option, mail merge seems to be
a bit long winded to achieve this - any ideas?

Thanks.

This sounds like Word's on-line form. Select the forms toolbar - insert the
fields and associated text then lock the form.
