I have posted this a few times but I may not be describing
this propoerly. My computer sporadically pops up a grey
background colored menu with a list of shortcuts to all of
the files in "my documents". The menu does not pop up in
response to any specific action that i take, no keystrokes
in particular. Sometimes I am not typing when it comes up.
It is always accompanied by the sound of my hard drive
engaging. The menu does not go away if I click onto the
desktop. I have to choose one of the files to open in
order for it to go away. This is not a pop up ad. Please
somebody help me!!!!!

I tried out the pop up ad stuff to try to see if this was a
pop up ad in disguise but it isn't. I am running Norten
Internet Security 2004 right now so I am up to date. Has
anybody ever seen a menu appear on their screen
uninvitedly? It is a grey menu. It covers about 1/3 of
the screen and it contains shortcuts to documents I have
created on my harddrive. Mostly MS documents but pictures
and sound clips too. The only way to make it go away is to
open one of the documents.

When this menu like item appears, can you right click on the text "My
Documents," select Toolbars and uncheck "My Documents"? I ask this because
your description sounds like a floating toolbar for My Documents.

With a toolbar that has been configured to AutoHide, it would come into
view whenever the mouse cursor passed over the area where the toolbar was
hiding.

Example: If you left click and drag the "My Computer" icon from Windows
Explorer and drop it at the very edge of the monitor, a My Computer toolbar
appears. It has a background similar to that seen in a right click menu and
lists the same items you would see in a My Computer window. Right click to
see the AutoHide, other configurable options and the "Toolbars" option
where you can uncheck My Computer to remove the toolbar from the desktop.
