menu button

I turn on word. The blank page is on the screen. The quick access buttons
are on the screen as the main menu--home, insert, page layout, etc. But
nothing appears below this menu line. If you click home you'll see font,
paragraph, style but the moment I start typing font, paragraph, style
disappears and only home, insert, page layout appears on the screen. How do I
get the screen to return to "normal." I'm really up the creek since I'm on
deadline and don't have any idea what to do. HELP!

You have the ribbon set to auto-hide. Double-click any of the "tabs" (the
Home, Insert, etc.) or press Ctrl+F1 to make it stay visible, and again to
hide it (to get more space for the document).

THANK YOU!!! I'd already tried -- as seen in MENU BUTTON UPDate--the more complicated winword.exe etc. and of course didn't work. But fortunately didn't need to get into anything more complicated. It figures. I've used Word for eight years and never came across this. Live and learn. Again THANK YOU1

I have the same problem, but neither double-clicking tabs or CTL-F1 helps.
An associted problem is that I cannot open docs from the START menu- I have
to open WORD and then pull the doc in using the "My Computer" path.
