I have 2 Gig of RAM, so I know that I have pleanty of physical memory.
Is the 640k of memory that Windows used to depend on gone? Or do any
programs still need it?

I have many programs in my task manager using
small amounts of memory. Are they making use of the RAM, or are they
tying up some other system resources?

The base memory limit of DOS no longer applies with XP or any Windows
platform based upon the NT kernel. So, no worries that applications
will starve the OS of resources (unless they leak due to bugs).
