Memory?

I am thinking of purchasing a new computer with Vista Premium. The computer
has 1GB of memory; but Vista also requires 1GB. Wouldn't I need to buy extra
memory for hte computer to use it efficiently??

Hi,

It depends what exactly you want to do on that comp. I've got 1GB on my
notebook and it works pretty good but I mainly use this machine to the
internet, MS Office 2007 and Visual Studio. I dont play games - for this
goal you can need an extra memory, especially when we're talking about new
games.

I don't understand the question. If the computer has 1gb of ram and Vista
requires 1gb of ram, then Vista will use the 1gb that's on the computer.

(Personally, I'd go for 2gb if you can afford it. But many people on this
newsgroup say they get by just fine with 1gb.)

I don't think it says requires 1GB of RAM. I think it says suggested
minimum. (I don't have a box in front of me), but for optimal performance,
the 1GB minimum will run the operating system and a few programs, which
probably 90%+ of the users will do. The other users who have greater
requirements, should get more RAM.

Try it as is and if you notice that it starts to page too much (slow way
down while churning the disk) and a reboot doesn't take care of it, add more
then. Remember, for the most part, memory will always be cheaper tomorrow
that it is today.
