memory upgrade laptop

I went to www.crucial.com, find the 256mb stick compatible with my laptop and
installed. After starting the computer, the screen is blank. I took the new
256mb stick out and system boots correctly. Any suggestions on why this is
happening/what I can do to fix this. Thanks in advance for any help.
 
Hi Jim,

Is the new 256 stick the only one in the system? If there is more than one, it could be a
compatibility issue between the two sticks. If each stick functions correctly by it self,
that would confirm that they are incompatible.
