Even thought I have 768 meg of ram this what mem shows:

655360 bytes total conventional memory
655360 bytes available to MS-DOS
633824 largest executable program size

1048576 bytes total contiguous extended memory
0 bytes available contiguous extended memory
941056 bytes available XMS memory
MS-DOS resident in High Memory Area

What's goin' on.

Now aint that a coincidence, mine shows exactly the same, and I have only
512megs of ram installed. Boy did I get a deal!!!
Now seriously, using the "mem" command shows you what windows has set aside
for that dos box (command prompt) you are using the mem command in.
To check you system memory goto Start-Programs-Accessories-System
tools-System information, and click on System summary in the left column,
the memory you are looking for show up in the right-sde panel near the
bottom.

You're at a command prompt. Windows 2000 doesn't allow direct access to
the hardware and you can pretty much fiddle with the settings as needed.

it shows that you are using only about 655megs from your
memory and i am guess that u have a 512 and 256 sticks in
your slots , try memory testing each stick if u have more
more than 2 sticks , you may need to check the status of
your board online by the model # and check to see if you
have maxed out the memory or maybe u need to change a
jumper for the motherboard.
