Memory manager

Dare I ask, but is there a replacement memory management for Windows
2000? XP?

Something that is more efficient at using RAM first rather than
farming it out to virtual memory at the first chance.

Using a paltry 256 mb but soon to go to 512 for such general things of
a common home computer, sans the exciting games!
