Hello,

I have win xp, sp2 with 256MB RAM. When opening 3 or 4 memory-hungry
programs simultaneusly, as expected, everything slows down, specially when
switching to background programs. I have noticed, however, that if I close
all the programs the computer still remain slow until I reboot: Desktop
re-draws slowly, programs open and operate slowly, etc.

Is this a common problem for XP? Is there a way re order the memory without
rebooting?

Thanks

Same thing happened for me with 256MB, just wasn't enough and you couldn't
seem to get the memory back without rebooting. I upgraded to what I could
afford (512MB more RDRAM on EBay) and things improved greatly. Removing
Norton Anti-Virus and switching to PC-Cillin helped, too. I've also heard
good things about AVG Anti-Virus (free).

Thanks for clarifying that, I meant to imply that since I was dealing with
RDRAM that 512MB was a big deal to me, though other users might see that as
a somewhat small increment. The prices for it seem to be higher.

This sounds to me as if you have installed one of the programs that
purports to Free up or Manage RAM. If so, get rid of it
