I often get the following message: 'The instructions at "0x075f1d58"
referenced the memory at "0x00fd8c28". The memory could not be read.'

What exactly does this mean, and how can I remedy it?

Thanks in advance!!!

Please post the full copy of the report.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools, and
Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information
regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&sd=tech

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you should
double click for further information. You can copy using copy and paste.
Often the link will, however, say there is no further information.
http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp
(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click
on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now
start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This
will paste the info from the Event Viewer Error Report complete with links
into the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from Event
Viewer.

Gerry,

I'll do as you suggest and post a copy ASAP. Thanks so much for your reply
and, hopefully, help!

Gerry,

I find errors in two areas of the Event Viewer, the first, and quite
sporadic, is in the "System" and the other and much more frequent is in
"Application". I notice that all of those in Application refer to Diskeeper
which I no longer use. Advice please. Thanks.....

Event ID: 7026
Date: 2/9/2006

APPLICATION:

Additional Information about the error found in "System". The data sent
via Internet to Microsoft shows the File Name as netevent.dll and the File
Version is 5.1.2600.0. Microsoft doesn't have any information of the 7026
Event.

Do you have this software installed?

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Diskeeper?

Gerry,

I have uninstalled Diskeepr and that took care of the Application error.
However, I still get the same System error. And, no, I don't have the
"paceap" software installed, though I am using Trend-Micro's anti-virus and
Webroot's Spy-Sweeper (if that makes any difference).

You need to ascertain whether the problem is a missing file or
an instruction to look for a file which is not needed ( the instruction
not being needed ).

Have you used Windows Explorer to search My Computer for
TPkd?

Go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View,
Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and
folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files " is
unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should
also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types"
is not checked. Next in Windows Explorer make sure View, Details is selected
and then select View, Choose Details and check before Name, Type, Total
Size, and Free Space.

When you Search check the first three "More Advanced Options".

In that case I suggest you try to find what prompts the instruction.

Autoruns is a programme, which list everything starting and
where it starts from.Try downloading and installing:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

You can save the output of the Everything tab to a txt file.
Place the cursor on any item in the list and it gives a save
as option on the File drop down. Post a copy of suspect
entries giving details of the start location.

Please forgive me. I have been sick and have not been able to respond.

In any event, I've run autoruns extensively and by disabling various
programs and even registry notations have not been able to find any
suspicious activity.

I don't know where to go from here, but can tell you that the memory error
message comes with an IE Explorer "banner" at the top of the message box.

Maybe it's just a gremlin we have to live with?

Gerry,

Your input is well meant, however we or I am familiar with the Event Viewer
and how to use it....The question is regarding memory. I have sent this
error to Microsoft no less than 10 times so I am sure you can understand the
frustration.

I get the same message only it happens only during shutdown. Any thoughts ??

Thanks Pal,
Steve
