Memory Full Problem

When I open more than a couple additional windows on my pc, the memory runs
out on my computer.

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 PC with 111GB on my hard disc of which I am
using 8.37 GB and I have 103 GB free space. I have 512 MB of RAM. I use
Internet Explorer 6 with Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.

I tried these which did not help:

IE > Tools > Internet Options > Programs Tab and selected "Reset Web Options"
IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab and selected "Restore Defaults"

Here are the problems when my memory runs out:

When I try to right click nothing happens. If I can open an additional
window, I get a window that is blank. When I click on a link on a website,
and it opens up a popup box, it is blank, and I try to close it at the red x
in the upper right corner, I get an error message that says:

"Microsoft Internet Explorer - The window is busy. Closing it may cause some
problems. Do you want to close it anyway? OK CANCEL"

When I click OK, the window does not close. The only solution is to close
all the windows on my desktop, delete the temporary internet files, compress
the old files, and start all over again. I use "Disc Cleanup" to get more
space by compressing old files and deleting temporary files. I cannot even
run this utility when the windows are open, and I cannot close windows
sometimes, so I have to shut down Internet Explorer and restart my computer.

Sometimes I get an error message that says CHATCI - Runtime Error 7: Out of
Memory.

Can anyone help with this problem?

Perform these cleaning steps and see if any improvement :
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.

I ran Spybot Search and Destroy after updating and imunizing my computer.

Here is all that it found. The reason these were disabled is probably
because I am running Norton Anti Virus also and it shut these tasks off.

I appreciate your efforts, but I would like to know if there is any
technical assistance that could help me identify and solve this problem, or
should I upgrade my RAM from 512 MB to 1 GB, or reload Windows from scratch?

I think you make it difficult for yourself, by not following their advice
and I can see where it gone wrong?.
They told you to remove unwanted application but it is still in your
hijackthis log, first nobody will give analysis for the log file here as this
Windows XP Newsgroup not Hijackthis forums.

To your log, there is lots of crap you need to get rid off there, send you
log (recent one) to another forum and this time listen and follow the steps
for your own good.
It will be nice if you informed the techguy people that you will send your
log somewhere else, as they done a good job but unfortunately you didn't
follow the advice from them and I hope you will not do the same thing with
others!.
You need to think about what you want to keep and what you prepare to remove?.
There are lots of start up (unwanted startup programs) that can crawl any
system listed in your log.
Look in the Add/Remove programs and see what installed there, you will be
surprised to see lots of Pies residing there, installed by software you
trusted to be installed on your system?.
Windows defender should be removed in this stage of troubleshooting as it
can hinder the scan and the removal of things if it was run in real time
Protection mode, the spybot report is normal as Norton took care of your
security, it disabled the windows security centre to avoid conflict, so
spybot scan picked it up to alert you.
Finally, please don't take my words as critic to you but as advice.

Contrary to what you say below, nobody at the Tech Guy Forum analyzed my
HijackThis Log and told me which programs to remove and which to leave alone.


I will take your advice and look in my add/remove programs and remove those
programs I am not using.

My last request in the Tech Guy Forum was in fact:

1. Try increasing the amount of Physical Ram you have.
2. Try uninstalling Norton's and go with the windows firewall and Trend
Micros AV program.
3. Find out how much you have allocated to the page file/swap file.

BEFORE you do any of this though you will want to turn off any third party
software and run the following: Disk Clean-up; Scan Disk/Error Checking and
Disk Defrag.

As a PC tech I can honestly say that about 90% of issues I have seen closely
related to this issue is normally resolved by using the methods I have just
described.

run this utility when the windows are open, and I cannot close windows
sometimes, so I have to shut down Internet Explorer and restart my computer.

Sometimes I get an error message that says CHATCI - Runtime Error 7: Out of
Memory.

Can anyone help with this problem?
