memory could not be written

I am getting the event 26 on my W2k server w/sp4 print
spooler. The verbiage of the message is:

Windows - Application Error: The instruction at "<>"
referenced memory at "<>". The memory could not
be 'written'.

I also get the same message for different memory locations
and it could not be 'read'.

It does not happen all the time, just periodically. It
has caused the server to reboot a couple times, but
usually just knocks the spooler service offline.

I have seen the articles referencing removing port
monitors, but what are the ramifications of that? Will
those printers still work?
Thanks!

Hi,

I've the same problem... but it was periodic.
I haven't any solution at this time, but I pray all the days!!!!
It seems to be caused by a sort of printing job or a printer drive
(maybe PCL6)...
My system Windows2000 Server US with SP4.
If you have any suggestion, you're welcome.
All my printers are on "Standard TCP/IP port".

Thanx

(Excuse me for my English but I'm French)

- Removing the port monitors does not usually have any negative effects
(unless they are mandatory, like for Citrix auto-created printers). Too be
safe, export the key before you delete it.
- Also, this event error sometimes indicates missing/damage registry keys.
Try uninstalling/reinstalling all printer drivers (Do this in File > Server
Properties of the printers windows)
