Media preview mode shows black preview icons

I was recently forced to downgrade from Vista Home Premium to XP Pro. In
Vista I was able to see previews of all of my media files as their icons.
I've set XP to preview mode but all I'm getting is a black screen. It
appears that XP is just picking up the short segment of black at the
beginning of the videos. Does anyone know of a way to get XP to show more
than just the blank screen at the start of the videos? In Vista the videos
seemed to be pulled from a specific point in the video. Thanks for any help!

AFAIK...XP shows the first frame and as
you say...many if not most clips begin with
a fade from black.
