Carole,
1. Start button> All Programs> Find Microsoft Media Player> Right click the
Entry> Send to> Shortcut to Desktop.
2. Then when the shortcut appears on the Desktop> Click and hold it down to
the Quick Launch Bar to the right of the Start button> Then Right click a
program that is normally hidden under the Quick Launch Bar> Sort by Name.
3. If the program is not listed under the Start button> All Programs, then
right click the application file and send a Shortcut to your Desktop. This
can be found at:

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe
