Media player won't shut down

If I'm playing music or videos and close Windows Media Player, the
program appears to close but I can still hear audio. Using task
manager, I can kill the process and the audio stops but the application
keeps popping back up in task manager until I kill it a few more times.
Suggestions?

Which version are you using? It happened to me quite a lot with version 10
(usually after another application like explorer failed), but I haven't
noticed it yet with 11.

Version 11 but nothing else that I know of has failed.
