Media player won't connect to internet radio staions/otheronline m

Am running WinXP Media.
-- For past week or so unable to connect to internet radio stations or get
online streaming. When the media player box comes up, it tries to connect
but stops saying 'ready' - clicking the play button produces same result. Win
Media player is configured to connect to internet. Have disabled firewall,
spyware program & have done a system restore, no joy.Any suggestions to solve
this problems would be most appeciated.
