Media Player WMV Corruption

J

Jason

Hi all,

I almost have all the kinks worked-out of my Vista system at home now
except for this oddity. I was trying to play a WMV file from a website
yesterday and noticed that the video is all garbled; it looks like a
smear of green, blue, and red pixellated squares. The audio works
fine, however, as do all other formats of video.

Windows Vista Ultimate
3GB RAM
AMD 2800+
Asus K8N motherboard (nForce3 250)
GeForce 7800GS OC AGP

In order to get games to work on the nForce3 chipset, I had to extract
and install the GART driver from the Nvidia nForce 5.11 XP driver
package. I've also installed the Cole2k Media Codec Pack (http://
www.cole2k.net/) and the latest Nvidia Vista drivers for my video
card.

Ideas?

This should be sourced back to the video card driver, but you can try
turning off DirectX Video Acceleration for WMV Files in WMP's
Tools:Options:performances menu dialog if you want to work around that.
