all of a sudden, i notice that my windows XP media player
will not play .wma or .asf files. it tries to open the
file and then i get the error message:

"Windows media player has encountered a problem and needs
to close. we are sorry for the incovenience."

Error Signature: AppName: wmplayer.ext AppVer:
9.0.0.2980 ModName: ddraw.dll ModVer: 5.3.0.900 Offset:
00000005

there is no error code associated with this. i ahve
restored the system to the configuration of about a month
ago, and i still get the same error. i uninstalled all
the updates i could think of to no avail.

what am i to do?? this is TOTALLY unacceptable !! any
help is welcome!!!!!

Go to Start > Run and in the Run box copy, then paste, the following:

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\setup_wm.exe"

Then hit the Enter key to reinstall Windows Media Player.
