Media player in windows xp

When loading files to an external player, I can't get them to stay in
numerical order, even though I disable auto-arrange and select arrange by
track number. As soon as I exit to another file folder, it goes right back in
alphabetical order.

Are you using leading zeros ('0') for track numbers 1-9?

Also, is the file folder you're exiting to set up to display filenames
alphabetically?

If you're using a bunch of files whose titles are track numbers, I'm
assuming they're all part of the same album. You may just want to create a
folder using the name of the album/artist (ex: FLEETWOOD MAC-Rumors) and then
just dump the cuts (track01, track02, track03...) into that folder.

Actually naming the tracks will almost always list them in alphabetical
order unless you preceed the song name with the track number. (ex: 07-Go Your
Own Way). That's just the nature of a "user friendly" graphical user
interface.

One last thing: When you have the folder open and things are ordered the way
you'd like them to be, hold down the shift key when you click the red [X] or
when you select Close. That SHOULD preserve the folder settings as they are.
