Media player in Windows Explorer

I use W2K professional. When I use Windows Explorer with the split
screen, whenever I select a multimedia file, e. g. mpg, mp3, etc,
information about the file is shown -- name, date modified, size, etc.

Just below this information is the bottom pane of Windows Media Player
which allows me to play the file.

My question is, can I prevent the display of Windows Media from
appearing in Explorer, and if so, how?

I don't use Media Player and don't want to use it.

Thanks
Phil

If you go to C:\WINNT\Web and Search within for the term "media" you will find htt's in there which use Web View to get a preview for Media files. You can either do surgery on those (You have to be careful doing this you can make your machine inoperable just by touching the contents of these files) or turn off Web View in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder options... | General | Web View | check Use Windows classic folders.
