After loading in win 2000 over win 98SE
i am no longer able to play AVI files.... why?
the file types show that this media player is associated with avi
they won't play in mplayer2 either
they did before the OS & MPlyr version change

Hello ssome,

MP does not have all codecs you need. Use additional tool like VLC from www.videolan.org

this looks like it replaces MP not add codecs
but, thanks,

With Win2K you have to be really careful about installing codecs.
I ran into tons of trouble installing codec packs. Your best bet
is to follow Meinolf's advice and use VLC player.

good idea, what happened to standardization with hundreds of codecs?
If only MSoft would bully their way in and make life simple for us.
