Media Player 9 question

I recently downloaded a movie that was a dat file. I told media
player 9 to play movie which it did with no problem. But now all of
the dat files in my computer have the icon for windows media
player. Is there anyway to change these files back to the original
icon?

go into your media player/tools/options/file types/

uncheck .dat
