Hello -
I have wmplayer 8.x installed and I noticed the following file
versions:
wmasf.dll 9.0.0.2980
wmvcore.dll 9.0.0.2980

info about these files can be seen in the folowing REG key:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Microsoft\Multimedia\Components\Informational\playback_WMFSDK]
@="Windows Media Format Runtime"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Microsoft\Multimedia\Components\Informational\playback_WMFSDK\Files\File0]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\wmasf.dll"
"Dll"="0"
"InProc"="0"
"Size"="218112"
"Version"="9.0.0.2980"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Software\Microsoft\Multimedia\Components\Informational\playback_WMFSDK\Files\File1]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\wmvcore.dll"
"Dll"="1"
"InProc"="0"
"Size"="2058888"
"Version"="9.0.0.2980"

I did install the SDK for directx because I wanted the latest version
of graphedt - but have since uninstalled (system restore) - related?

OK to leave this as-is?

think abt it.Why don't you upgrade to WMP 9 ?

Hello !
for some reason WMP9 seems like the ultimate in bloatware.
I looked at it about a year ago and quickly uninstalled it.

I don't do much in WMP except view video files from time to time,
and occasionally play mp3's (cause my son likes the visualizations).

I'm not interested in licensing music, DRM, ripping (at least not
using WMP).
I'm not intersted in WMA or any of the other MS proprietary
types.

My bother is running it on Windows ME; for some reason it just
bothered me.
Do you use it?

cheers,
Dave
