Media Player 11 Low Memory Error

HP Pavilion dv9000, AMD Turion 64 X2 TL60, 2GB Ram, nVidia GeForce 7150M /
nForce 630M, Home Premium 32-bit.

I use Media Player 11 [or, the Firefox plugin] to listen to streaming audio
[such as talk radio] or watch streaming video. It worked flawlessly for a few
weeks then stopped mysteriously. I tried using the full application, and I
receive the following error when trying to load the link [ctrl-u]:

"Your computer is running low on memory. Quit other programs, and then try
again." The Original Error Code is "8007000E - Ran out of memory."

Searching Google, I found several people had similar problems, but the
difference was Media Player 11 installed on XP. In Vista, there seems to be
no way to repair/reinstall Media Player.

I tried system restore to the earliest restore point. Also, ran all the
updates. I have not created HP's recovery disks. It seems to have occurred
after a Windows Defender update. However, I also experienced a video driver
crash at about the same time while watching internet tv with HP QuickPlay.

Ran 'sfc /scannow' with the following results:

"Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt
files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the
CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log"

The coming SP1 appears to have patches that might resolve my issue.

You Should Try Using Either Windows Vista Home Basic N Edition Or Windows
Vista Business N Edition (It Runs Much Faster), And Then Try Using Something
Like Apple I-Tunes (It's Free 2 Use As Long As You Provide Your Own Music
From Music CD's), Or Real Player 11.0 (Free As Well When You Use Your Own
Music Cd's), 2 Take The Place Of The Missing Windows Media Player 11.0, Just
FYI.

P.S. Seriously, I Downloaded And Installed The X64 Service Pack One Windows
Vista Business N Edition .ISO File From MSDN Subscriber Downloads, And It
Installed And Runs Much Faster Than Both Ultimate Edition And Enterprise
Edition Combined, Just FYI.

I can't believe no one has faced this problem before. Or, that no one has
any suggestion other than, "Use an alternative."

When I was a young IT tech [many years ago], we prided ourselves on
troubleshooting and resolving issues with Microsoft software. We didn't
re-image everything that didn't work as planned.

Where's all the high-priced, over-rated Microsoft help?

The details in CBS.log are probably relevant/interesting. What do they say?

If it's only happening during streaming events, that's a nice isolation.
Under WMP's Tools:Options:Network menu tab, is the proxy list populated or
not?

Sorry. I gave up on anyone actually answering. However, I've read your
hints and tips, and I appreciate them. None of them have helped.

The network protocols are all populated.

RTSP/UDP

HTTP

No ports are identified by number. Multicast is allowed also.

I've followed most of the updates [except for those I do not use], but I
have not installed the Service Pack yet. I'm waiting for the official
release.

It's not the firewall or cookies, and I've uninstalled Norton's Symantec. I
use AntiVir and the Windows Firewall. I'm behind a hardware firewall.

I uninstalled Norton's with the thought it was consuming resources.

During attempts to stream, I see no spike in memory or processes, or at
least, nothing out of the ordinary and nothing consuming 100%.

Downloaded media plays just fine. MP3, etc. It's only streaming video and
audio, and both worked earlier. I've wondered if it's a library issue.

Are there any libraries [DLLs, etc.] that can get overwritten in Vista? I
was under the impression not. I use UAC, as I'm used to typing root password
when I wish to do something with elevated privileges in Linux.

Still looking for suggestions. Thanks for the response.

I've run across another log file that might help troubleshoot the error.

In my desperation to access certain streaming audio and video, I installed
both RealPlayer and VLC Media Player. I use VLC for streaming audio
[internet radio] and RealPlayer where available.

VLC reputedly will play both video formats, but I've been unable to play
either in VLC. However, it creates a log, and I thought the information
might be helpful in determining what's stopping the stream.

I'm still of a mind it's something local to me.

This first is an 'rtsp' error:

That tells us very little, but perhaps the results for Media Player will:

I suppose the only real error is the port number.

Meanwhile, I see nothing relevant in the Event Viewer.

WMP does not say it recognizes MOV. You may have installed some bad third
party code that misregistered MOV as a 'supported' type, but -- I'd bet that
doesn't work well. If Apple wants to provide a MOV file filter, they can do
so.

Sorry: "MOV" is a wide file format covering a wide range of file types, so
even if WMP managed to support some subaspects of MOV it could still have
problems with others. I apologize that you installed some dumb third party
software that didn't understand that. =\

I like Apple and have personally worked with the QuickTime team to help make
multimedia work better for everyone. Please don't insinuate badness simply
because you installed dumb third party software that didn't understand MOV.

You will need to download quicktime to do that or the k-lit codec pack to
play those files.
