hi. i did a stupid thing. i installed the beta of "windows media player 10". actually it's version "9.00.00.3409". now, it's not working well. i went to "add/remove programs" and tried to uninstall. it tries, but then i get the error that the "roll back" failed! i have no idea how to uninstall it! i want media player 9 back. system restore is out of the question. the restore point is gone. is there anyway to completely get rid of 10 so i can install 9 back on? i'd hate to do another format! thanks.

Does an install of WMP9 fail?

i have installed windows media player 9 again. it doesn't fail, but i still have media player 10. i've tried to uninstall media player 10 again. still get the roll back error. thought if i installed media player 9 again...the roll back would succeed. it did not. why do you ask if media player 9 install failed? thanks.

Was there an entry for Windows Media Player 10 in Add/Remove Programs? Was
that the one that gave you the error when you tried to remove it? Is there
also an entry for version 9? If so, have you tried uninstalling that?

Have you also tried using Add/Remove Windows Components (there's a button to
run it in Add/Remove Programs) to then uncheck Windows Media Player and
click okay to have it try to remove all of Windows Media Player (instead of
try to rollback to a prior version)? If you don't see Windows Media Player
listed, edit the sysoc.inf file. Remove the "hide" parameter. Don't delete
its position in the parameter list. Just null it out so there are 2
contiguous commas (i.e., the parameter position is retained but nothing is
specified for that parameter). I might be the entry that starts with
"WMP...".
