media center crashes

[Tricky]

Everytime I try to watch tv , video or listen to music within "media center"
the screen turns black and the program crashes.
I am however able to play those same video files using "media player"
without any problems so I don't think it's a codec issue.

Becides I have the latest klite codec installed.

Now I started getting an error msg when I attempt to play music in MC
"media center has lost it's remote connection to media player and needs to
restar". then it goes black and freezes.

I am able to record tv shows but I just can't see what i'm recording or play
it after.



I tried a system restore to a time when I know it was working but the
problem remains.

If anyone has had any experience with this problem please advise me.



I think I have real problems over here

thanks I posted there but got no response.

I ran across this 3rd party utility that I thought I might give a try to
resolve my problem. I guess I resets mce to it's original state but also
understand that it could damage things. Anyone know how safe this program
is?

one month later I finally solved the problem. It was a codec issue... I
uninstalled the klite codec pack and everything is working fine now.
