MDAC 2.8 Silent Install

We cannot get the silent install of MDAC 2.8 to work.

We've tried executing
(MDAC_TYP28.EXE /Q:A /C:"dasetup.exe /Q /N") and
executing just (dasetup.exe /Q). With either method, we
see dasetup.exe run as a process on the computer for 1-2
seconds, and then close. When we run the component
checker, the PC is not upgraded to MDAC 2.8.

A non-silent install on the PC using either the
MDAC_TYP28.EXE or DASETUP.EXE works fine.

Here's what I've tried:
- Run through explorer shortcut from a shared network
location -- doesn't work
- Run through command prompt from a shared network
location -- doesn't work
- Copy all files to local C: drive, run from there --
doesn't work
- Run as local machine administrator (instead of domain
account with administrator privileges) -- doesn't work

Does anyone have any ideas? Has anyone been able to make
this work smoothly?
