Mcafee vs Symantec

I just recently disabled Norton antivirus and installed Mcafee. I'm
not completely happy wth Norton Symantec particularly because it
toatly screwed up my DVD copy software.

Anyone here have any oppinions about Mcaffe vs Norton?

I'll take the Symantec Corporate Edition AV for Workstations and Servers
over everything else on the market - don't use the home edition stuff any
more.

McAfee has about a 80% rate in my experience with unmanaged machines.

I think that if you tally up all the complaints, McAfee usually receives far
more complaints about interference with 3rd party applications.

SAV CE doesn't receive anywhere near the good press it deserves. Probably
because of the Symantec name, which is an easy target.

MacAfee was a piece of trash in the corporate environment a few years back.
It couldn't detect/stop anything. So I can only imagine its effectiveness in
the home environment.

For Norton, which I got rid of the trial version off of Vista, my experience
with Norton was nothing but a nightmare. I have used the corporate version
of Norton at work and it seems ok.

Hi,

I recently downloaded a trail version of Kaspersky, it's amazing!!!

I was really surprised that Kaspesky have completed the job while
others like Norton, AVG, Trend Micro and Mcaffe are still behind.

My computer returned healthy after having Kaspersky installed for one
month.

I'm learnign that the hrd way.I disabled Norton and installed Mcafee
just to try it out. It screwed my machine. up. When I run msconfig to
disable some services.I get an access violation and it tells me I need
to be Administrator. Never happened before I instaled Mcafee. Very
suspicious.

Are you certain that you removed all vestiges of Norton? I am into my
4th year with McAfee after finally cleaning Norton from my machines
and have yet to have a problem with McAfee.

Norton IS NOT EASY to girt rid of-- but IMHO it is well worth it. Of
course YMMV.
